If you like fantastic cloud formations, you will certainly be satisfied in the summer term. It is magnificent to watch how they build up and dissolve again. You will quickly find out that the size of the lake has an influence on the weather. The vaporizing water pushes the clouds away. The Lago di Bolsena has a size of 114 km².

Often the sun is shining at the lake while dark clouds are passing in the sky around the lake. A storm front is often followed by Tramontana - a cool dry wind normally from the mountains und usually blowing for about three days. Then, the sight is overwhelming. But be careful: the lake is governed by wind-forces difficult to be evaluated by a water sportsmen not very experienced.

Under such weather conditions only yachtsmen and surfers should be on the water who can master gusty winds of 6 Bft (Beaufort). Swimming islands, air mattresses and inflatable boats should now only be used close to the shore. Our tall trees provide sufficient lee.

There does not exist an organized water rescue. For everybody's safety the following applies: Every water sportsmen watches and helps the other. Please participate for the sake of everybody's security.

Don't worry: The lake is a gorgeous place for water sports, especially when the winds from South/South-West are predominant and reach the shore landward. Then, the lake is very safe as there are only coastward winds and sandy beaches many kilometres long …

If you carefully observe the weather, bad surprises are usually excluded - and anybody who does not learn how to sail and surf here will not learn it anywhere.
